Napoli’s Pizza Inc uses a conventional oven, and apparently the pie cooks on a screen or a screened tray. Despite that dubious technique, the good crust elevates this pie above the other mom and poppers. If I were to return, I’d keep it basic and get a pepperoni pizza here; low-grade pepperoni is a better topping choice than low-grade prosciutto.
Service was pleasant, except for the cigarette smoke wafting in from the kitchen. Napoli’s Pizza Inc Pizza in Berwyn earns a 6 out of 10. Better than a frozen pizza — and many strip-mall pizza places can’t beat that fundamental metric.
This pizza tastes just as good after three hours in the crate before my delicate 10-minute oven heats up (on a perforated skillet, 350 degrees). In nearly four years in Texas, I’ve been fortunate to be only about 30 minutes from a great napoli pizza inc pizza joint at 313 Street. During my time in Pennsylvania, I’ve had several opportunities to lovingly make even better napoli pizza inc pizzas from my pizza to eat manufacturer Norma. Knepp baking pizza once a week (he hasn’t made pizza regularly since then).
Here in Spicewood, TX, I’ve finally found a napolipizzainc.com pizza that stands proudly alongside the great pizzas from Norma (who won the Caputo Cup for her New York-style pie). It’s a fantastic pizza, the price is much lower than other pizzas of this quality and the owners are a lovely couple who are planning to expand their business with the craft beer they brew. I’m going back soon, eager to try some less traditional takes on the napoli pizza inc pizza, such as the Báhn Mi ($16, with hoisin sauce base, Napolipizzainc pulled pork, Grandé mozzarella, pickled onion, carrot and radish slaw, fresh jalapeño, cilantro and sriracha mayo) and the Smokehouse Legend ($18, with Napolipizzainc brisket, pulled pork, smoked sausage, bacon, fresh jalapeños, red onions, and BBQ sauce drizzle).
I visited Napoli’s Pizza Inc on a warm spring afternoon as the lunch hour was waning. There are a few tables outside at this corner restaurant, but I was seated inside, where the narrow space hosts a bar and seating for just 38. It’s a pleasant neighborhood setting with a casually hip feeling inside.
Plenty of interesting choices for the pizza (including one with bone marrow and beef heart), but I chose a basic ($14) Margherita. I also ordered a plate of marinated Castelvetrano olives ($7) as an appetizer, and an Earl Grey – Lemon soda.
The green olives were nicely presented, garnished with fennel, thinly slice Chinese radishes, and some tasty housemade wine biscuits moonlighting as croutons. Along with some slices of very fresh Italian bread and flavorful olive oil, it was an excellent starter. The timing was perfect, too, because my pie arrived shortly after I had finished the olives.
